Remarks

Likely an LB jar body, possibly LB 1 or 2-a highly polished exterior which becomes wide bands of vertical polish alternating with unpolished surface from the mid body to the base. These polish bands average 1cm in width. The polish bands are horizontal along the body before the vertical bands, which result from a vertical polish application, begin to extend. I don't think this can be a bowl, is it found only on jars? The very "sandwiched" fabric appearance may result from non-uniform firing or from reheating during usage. While there is little temper perforating either surface, punctuated bulging or sunk areas belie very coarse sand or grit inclusions distributed throughout the fabric. An excellent candidate for radiographic examination. Circumferential rotational striations are visible on the interior surface. The exterior surface is highly scratched. All surfaces are covered with 30% pale yellow corrosion. In addition to the medium sand noted above, limited frequencies of fine and coarse sand are also present. Breaks are rough.
