Remarks

Base and body fragment from a large LB storage jar--difficult to say if it's from a pithos or not. The sherd is composed of 4 individual, mending fragments. Much more of the body portion is preserved, than the base. This makes it almost basically impossible to measure the base diameter. While the majority of the body portion is the above-noted Reddish Brown 2.5YR 5/4, the base portion is completely Black GY1 2.5/N in color, the body also features several firing clouds of black portions of the same shade. The body appears to have been polished, leaving behind numerous circumferential polishing marks. Approx. 50% of this polish has abraded away. No polish is visible on the base. Core band 1 should notes as Weak Red 10YR 4/2, not 4/3. The interior slip is thick, but not quite thick enough to be considered a core band. Coarse and fine sand are also present in moderate frequencies, in addition to the medium sand mentioned above. Many of these particles are visible perforating the exterior vessel surface and smoothed into the interior surface. There are light rotational striations visible over small portions of the interior surface. Light yellowish brown corrosion covers 20% of the exterior and 30% of the interior surface. Breaks are rough.
