Remarks

The shoulder of a small LB jar or even a bowl, this fragment consists of the b/s portion of the vessel. The external vessel surface is highly abraded and spalled, leaving only 4 comb-applied decoration lines inferior to what perhaps may have been additional ornaments (oblique hatches or nail-shaped impressions). The largest spalls are located on the body portion. Small amounts of medium sand and pyrite are visible perforating the external surface. The internal surface exhibits larger perforating grains and even grit-sized particles, perhaps suggesting a separate, coarser internal layer of clay. Indeed, there is some lamination or laying of clay slabs visible in the breaks. Some of these larger inclusions are also visible in the breaks, close to the internal surface. Some of the particles even emerge more than 1mm from the internal surface. In section the fabric is very compact. Pale yellow corrosion covers 30% of all surfaces. Breaks are hackly. Chemically cleaned on 2008-12-01.
