A unique-looking, undecorated EB vessel--most likely a KA pot or jar, as it is not quite possible to propose an exact vessel form from this sherd. The everted rim / pinch handle also makes it difficult to measure the rim diameter, although the rim plan is almost certainly circular. It's important to mention that the "pulled" rim modification listed above is the same as the pinch handle. The handle is complete, save some damage to its extreme tip. One of the most interesting aspects of this vessel is that untrimmed clay excess on the interior rim surface suggest that the container was formed in a mold--this makes sense considering the difficulty in forming the everted rim handle through another technique. This mold technique combined with the heavy chaff temper and coarse surface treatments make the vessel quite unique and rare amongst EB assemblages. Perhaps a specialized function? While listed as Light Reddish Brown 5YR 6/3, the vessel's interior surface color is in fact mottled with equal amounts of light reddish brown and Black GY1 2.5/N. While the dominant inclusions are listed as fine sand above, the dominant fabric inclusions in fact consist of chaff--numerous chaff burnouts completely dominate small amounts of fine sand. Pyrite grains are visible perforating the interior and exterior surfaces. Breaks are rough, no noticeable corrosion.
