A small jar found in two parts, approx 15cm apart in the locus 8 ashy (garbage) matrix. The outermost surface of the base is almost completely eroded away--although a basal surface remains, it consists entirely of smoothed core matrix. Impossible to identify the base profile or plan. The piece has been restored with a single, circumferential gypsum fill, uniting the upper and lower halves. There is one circumferential incised linear decoration at the n/s transition. It is inconsistently applied, moving inferiorlysuperiorly the n/s area and at some points disappearing completely. The body portion of the vessel hosts several other vertical lines that run from the b/s transition to the base. Some of them are incised, and some are barely hinted furrows. This it makes it difficult to produce an exact count, but there could be as many as 10 or varying depths. First time I have seem this vertical body decoration in a form other than polish ornamentation. Other diagonal lines on the exterior shoulder may represent decorations or perhaps the remains of a rope/cord present on the exterior during firing. The exterior surface is highly mottled with the above-noted Black, Very Dark Gray GY1 3/N, and Reddish Gray 5YR 5/2. Core bands, inclusions, and interior surface characteristics are unavailable for examination due to the restoration process. The interior and exterior rim surfaces are highly chipped and abraded, leaving the superior rim surface preserved over only 50% of the rim. Neck is only slightly conical, almost cylindrical.
