Remarks

Designated MAE244--radiographed, XRF, SAXS. Fragment from a medium-sized LM vessel--there may be a hint of neck at the superior-most portion of the sherd. The decorative schema consists of two circumferential furrows that sit on the superior shoulder portion. The furrows are approximately 0.82 cm in width and are spaced 0.41 cm apart. The exterior may have been somewhat polished, but most of that has abraded off, particularly between each comb incision. The space between the furrows features a line of circumferential polish/slip and there are streaks of polish visible on the shoulder superior to the furrows (and inconsistent dabs inferior of them). Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on all surfaces, while the interior features several circumferential depressions or streaks on the the shoulder. The exterior is completely mottled with Brown 7.5YR 4/2. In addition to the fine sand, significant frequencies of coarse and very coarse sand are visible in the fabric. Both surfaces feature moderate frequencies of (dark?) inclusion perforations and pyrite pops. Breaks are rough.
