Designated MAE231--radiographed, XRF, SAXS, thin-sectioned (spring 2006 by Quality Thin Sections) Fragment from a medium sized LB bowl. The decorative schema consists of a single circumferential furrow incorporated into the vessel neck, followed by a 1.6cm-tall register of linear polish decorations on the superior shoulder, followed by comb-applied circumferential incised lines that begin on the inferior shoulder and transition (weakly) onto the superior body (5 visible comb lines in total). The furrow is 0.6 cm wide and the comb lines vary wildly between 0.3 and 0.1 cm in width and are spaced similarly inconsistent distances apart. The initial two comb lines are true incisions, but the inferior three consist mostly of circumferentially removed polish. The exterior appears to have been highly polished at some point, with significant amounts of it now abraded off, particularly within each comb incision. The spaces between each line feature circumferential polish/slip. The linear polish decorations on the superior shoulder begin on the left of the sherd as vertical lines (4), followed by 7 oblique line running lower left to upper right (center of sherd), followed by two more vertical lines (right edge of sherd). They average 0.13 cm in width. Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on the interior surface, while several circumferential rotational striations are visible superior and inferior to the exterior decorations. The external rim, neck, and shoulder, as well as the internal neck and shoulder, features limited amounts of light gray and white dendritic corrosion. In addition to the very fine sand, significant frequencies of coarse and very coarse sand are visible in the fabric. The internal surface is moderately populated with pyrite pops and the superior rim surface features limited chips and abrasions. Breaks are rough.
