Designated MAE232--radiographed, XRF, SAXS. An undecorated fragment from a medium-sized LM jar with a rolled-rim. The exterior appears to have been highly polished at some point, with significant amounts of it now abraded off, particularly on the external neck and rim. Polish continues onto the internal rim surface and dulls towards the neck. Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on all surfaces, but more difficult to make out on the darker, discolored, and possibly burned portions of the sherd (external neck and rim, right hand side). External burning has darkened the colors there (and produced numerous chips and general crumbliness) meaning that the original exterior shade was likely close to Very Dark Gray. The exterior is 50% mottled with Very Dark Gray GY1 3/N, Dark Gray GY1 2.5/N, and Reddish Brown 5YR 5/3. In addition to the fine sand, significant frequencies of coarse and very coarse sand are visible in the fabric. The internal surface is covered in limited pyrite pops, while the internal and external rim surfaces feature moderate pyrite pops and inclusion perforations, likely due to abrasion wear etc. Breaks are hackley.
