Remarks

Designated MAE219--radiographed, XRF, SAXS. Fragment from a LB vessel body/base. The decorative schema consists of a single line of circumferential oblique hatches right at the body/base transition. The hatches average 1.4 cm in length and 0.38 cm in width. They overlap one another approximately 33% and separated by 0.2 cm on average. Note: only 2.5 hatches are visible on this sherd between breaks. The hatches are filled with small ridges, suggesting they were applied with cord. The base diameter may be 10-12 cm, but too little is preserved to accurately measure. Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on all surfaces, but are particularly visible on the interior, which appears to have been less smoothed. The exterior is 30% mottled with Black GY1 2.5/N, mostly on the base, where a shiny material may have been applied (otherwise it's a firing or destruction cloud). In addition to the fine sand, significant amounts of medium and very coarse sand are visible in the fabric and in highly limited amounts in the surfaces. Moderate frequencies of pyrite pops are visible on both surfaces. Breaks are hackley.
