The exterior surface of this sherd is heavily abraded and 40% of the exterior surface is covered with light brown corrosion. The interior surface exhibits faint traces of a yellowish red burnish, meaning that the interior may have originally been 'slipped and polished', not simply 'slipped and smoothed.' Looking at the sherd exterior, the leftmost portion of the rim exhibits a lighter (polished) surface, where the interior brown color bleeds over the rim and onto the exterior. Delaminated clay layers evidence a slab technology. Designated MAE 638.
