Designated MAE165--radiographed, XRF, SAXS. Almost 10% of a medium sized LB 1 or 2 bowl, missing only the base as far as profile is concerned. The sherd is covered heavily in destruction soot--also highly discolored The decorative schema consists of: (1) 2-3 circumferential wavy lines on the superior rim surface, (2) 2 circumferential wavy lines sitting on top of a single straight line on the neck, and (3) 7-8 circumferential comb lines on the superior shoulder and 4 circumferential wavy lines and a single straight circumferential lines on the inferior shoulder. Almost all of the lines average 1.2 mm in width, except for the lower wavy lines which average 1mm in width. The straight comb lines are spaced approximately 0.25cm apart, while the wavy lines are spaced, on average, an amount equal to their width. The exterior appears to have been highly polished at some point, with significant amounts of it now abraded off, particularly between each wavy and straight linear incision. Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on the interior surface, while several circumferential rotational striations are visible on the external body. The exterior surface may have originally been Black GY1 2.5/N in color, which shows through across 20% of the exterior. The interior may have been Very Dark Gray GY1 3/N, which remains on 10% of the interior, mainly the rim portion, which may have been oxidized. In addition to the fine sand, significant amounts of medium sand are visible in the fabric. Limited amounts of pyrite pops and inclusion perforations are visible in both surfaces, but slightly more prominent on the more abraded exterior. Breaks are rough.
