Designated MAE107--radiographed, XRF, SAXS. This well fired, gray-wear sherd bears the unmistakable rolled-rim profile of an LBA jar. While not large enough to be considered a pithos or "large storage jar", this is a large, well made vessel (hard, light gray in color). While the inclusions consist of medium-coarse sand, radiographic analysis has revealed numerous pebble inclusions which begin at the sherd's shoulder. Some of these are visible poking through the interior and exterior vessel walls. The vessel is coated with what appears to be the same thick brown slip on the interior and exterior sides, the exterior is much more smoothed than the interior, however, slightly polished, and leaving some horizontal lines. The smoothing stops just below the rim roll, where the surface is much rougher. The slip has flaked off much of the rim's exterior surface. 15% of the interior and exterior surfaces is covered in spotty, black corrosion. The two furrows on the vessel shoulder feature rubbing lines between them, left by the decoration instrument. Rather pointed ridges border each furrow. Sherd fractures are relatively smooth. Exterior munsell should be Gray 10YR 5/1. SAXS analysis conducted at ANL on 3/16/06.
