Remarks

Designated MAE196--radiographed, XRF, SAXS. A sizable, undecorated fragment from an LM pithos. One half of the sherd has been substantially burned, crazed, discolored, and cracked (lower right exterior, lower left interior). This burning action has substantially mottled the exterior with Reddish Brown 5YR 5/3 and the interior with Brown 7.5YR 5/3. It has also removed polish and bent the sherd. The remaining polish appears to have been applied horizontally, circumferentially. There are no visible circumferential rotational striations. The inferior exterior rim surface is uneven and inconsistent, where rolled rim was tucked in and pressed. The internal rim and neck surfaces feature several cracks, chips, and spalls. There is a little red coloration to the core, but it is not consistent enough to add any more bands to the record. In addition to the fine sand, moderate amounts of medium and coarse sand are visible in the fabric. The external surface features moderate perforating inclusions, while the interior features high amounts. Pyrite pops are very few. Breaks are rough.
