Remarks

While only one core band is recorded here, the core is in fact significantly mottled with blacks and reddish browns, perhaps suggesting that the vessel was burned in the Gegharot fires. The roasted appearance of the interior slip also supports this. It could also have been used as a cooking vessel. The exterior surface is also darkly mottled, near the hatching band, perhaps also suggesting secondary burning. The hatching register seems to consist of a differently prepared paste--it\\\\\\\'s just using a level of grit temper not observable in the rest of the sherd. Or it could simply be highly eroded...
