Remarks

Core band color should be 2.5YR 3/2 Dusky Red. This indeterminate fragment could be a jar or pot depending on how you stance the sherd. The rim is rather misshapen and the entire sherd seems rather crudely fashioned. Combined with the very large inclusions this is likely a handmade vessel. Abrasion on the rim suggests that is could even be a bowl... The very coarse sand and grit particles are visible in both the internal and external surfaces, pushing through the slips. Much of the polish has abraded off the external surface, but is appears that the original application did not proceed all the way to the rim. Only half of one applied cone decoration is preserved here, sitting on the lump shoulder. There are several large cracks/voids visible on the internal surface. Little corrosion or mica present. Breaks are rough, grit is visible there.
