Remarks

This sherd may be part of a lower shoulder or even a body sherd on an enormous vessel. The two bands of nail-shaped decorations are 180-degree reproductions of each other--the upper band impressions running from lower left to upper right and the lower ones from upper left to lower right. The first core band is closely associated with the internal slip, accounting for 10% of the core. While the fabric is dominated by fine sand there are a LOT of coarse and very coarse sand particles as well. Some of these larger particles penetrate the internal and external surfaces. Both the internal and external surfaces are 20% encrusted with white spindly corrosion, perhaps from roots. Breaks are smooth.
