Remarks

This sherd likely contains an equal amount of medium and fine sand. Approximately 80% of the exterior polish has abraded away. The decoration consists of an applied belt of clay which has been fully covered with three registers of oblique hatch decorations, each alternating their direction so that the final (3rd) register has the same orientation as the first and the entire ensemble gives the overall appearance of a complex herringbone ornamentation schema. The uppermost register hatches run from upper left to lower right, the middle register from lower left to upper right, and the final register again from upper left to lower right. The entire internal surfaces has abraded off, revealing the delamination feature of 2mm internal layer which is not visible in the breaks because of the intense abrasion. It looks like a thick internal slip layer. This abrasion that the thickness measurement and core band records are largely estimates. Rotational striations are present on the external surface. Breaks are smooth. No visible corrosion or mica pops.
