A red-on-black LM sherd, likely from a restricted vessel (jar). Appears to be taken from a jar with a medium-length neck, though hard to say with only neck and shoulder. The ornamentation schema consists of two incised circumferential lines on shoulder. There may have been additional bands, but the sherd break follows the second line--in fact the angle of the sherd surface inferior to the second line suggests at least one more ornament. The lines are approximately 0.26cm wide and spaced 0.43cm apart. The most superior incised line features a set of oblique hatches running upper right to lower left immediately adjacent on the shoulder (superior). These may represent where the incision tool bounced along the vessel surface as the line was being cut (suggests a counterclockwise rotation of the vessel with the left hand and application of the cutting tool with the right). The exterior surface is heavily mottled with Dark Gray GY1 4/N. Both surfaces are highly abraded and spalled. Exterior slip missing 40%. Interior slip missing 20%. The interior neck hosts 10 (or fewer) circumferential impressions, each approximately 0.09cm wide and spaced unevenly apart, between 0.15cm and 0.2cm on average. This may result from a rotational smoothing process utilizing a comb or textile tool, or it could be from the slab rollout surface. Where the neck slip is missing the impressions are not present. Rotational striations are visible on both surfaces. Medium sand also visible in moderate frequencies in the fabric. Moderate amounts of pyrite visible in all surfaces, no pops. Several organic burnouts visible on the interior and one (long one) visible on the exterior surface. Breaks are rough.
