Sherd from a large LM storage vessel, likely pithos, featuring a single raised shoulder belt hosting a register of tightly grouped zigzags, most likely applied with a single comb. The ornament isn't centered on the belt, placed instead on the bottom 75% of it. The zigzag repeats at an average frequency of 2.5cm. The exterior sherd surface is moderately mottled with spots of Very Dark Gray 5YR 3/1 (perhaps corrosion?) and the exterior polish has widely abraded of off 20% of the fragment. The entire surface was clearly polished, before the comb decoration was applied, and horizontal polishing marks are visible in some areas. Circumferential rotational striations and scratches are visible on the exterior surface. Superior to the decorative belt are some deeper, skew furrows or incisions (perhaps from a trowel?). The interior surface features limited amounts of yellow corrosion and groups of skew textile or wiping impressions. In addition to the coarse sand mentioned above, medium and fine sand are also present in the fabric in moderate frequencies. Grit particles are also visible perforating both surfaces. Moderate amounts of pyrite popping on all surfaces. Breaks are rough.
