Remarks

An undecorated, curious-looking, hand-made base of a cup or pithos, retaining many thumb impressions on its exterior surface. This gives the exterior a rough and pitted appearance and was likely intended to be so. The interior surface is significantly smoother. There is significant delamination between some kind of inner coating and the general vessel wall. This is either a very thick slip or a technique of superimposed slabs/molds. Both surfaces feature rather inconsistent coloring: the exterior is mottled with Dark Gray Gy1 4/N and the interior is mottled with Gray 2.5Y 6/1. Besides the fine sand, some medium sand particles are also present in the fabric. Inclusions of various sizes are visible perforating the exterior surface and pyrite particles are visible in all surfaces. Yellow corrosion covers 20% of all surfaces, perhaps 80% of the breaks, though. Breaks are smooth.
