This locus was opened on 7/17/2013, corresponding to a surface that we believed we had reached across the E half of the trench. Later results suggest that it was, in fact, two contexts; the first is a surface in the central portion of the trench, E of the bedrock cut, lying over locus 15, while the second continued to be rather loose fill in the E-most portion of the trench, over locus 14. Locus 12 lies beneath locus 6.

A possibly complete vessel was found in the area of locus 12 that would become locus 15. It is in the second ceramic bag for this locus. It lay in association with two crucibles (one of which is also in locus 12), and some animal bones. It seems clear that two rocks crushed the vessel, possibly around the same time as a conflagration, as the soil beneath the sherds is charcoal filled and has orange clay inclusions.
Pottery should be read with locus 15, 19, and 38.

Soil samples from locus 12:
Western sample had elevations between 2294.475 and 2294.38, located 115 cm from S baulk x 385 from E baulk.
Central sample had elevations between 2294.34 and 2294.215, located 135 cm from S baulk x 230 from E baulk.
