Remarks

This ceramic object is either a fragment of a hearth, andiron, or some kind of ceramic stand. Based on the range of forms of these two objects and the fragmented nature of the find it is impossible to determine from which form this artifact derived. The object, however, is only fractured on two sides. We have three to four surfaces that seem to go from a narrow end to a wider body. The object is reddish brown in color and is made of a coarse i.e. well-tempered fabric. The most convincing hypothesis to me -- based on the overall morphology -- seems to be that it is part of a leg of an andiron.
