This context refers to the matrix underlying the topsoil and sod throughout the unit. It was characterized by a fine-grained rich brown sediment that contained minimal rock inclusions. The density of cultural materials in this matrix was considerably dense. It is clear, however, that these materials are primarily wash from down slope. While most materials are EB, we found one or two LB sherds which is unsurprising given the history of occupation at the site. The height of this locus varies throughout the trench. In the eastern side of the trench this deposit was only about 20cm deep, when we reached bedrock. In the western side, it was between 30-40cm. I concluded the locus when we uncovered the presence of a considerable number of stones, which were associated with a different soil type.
