Designated MAE1737--radiographed, XRF
Should fragment from a medium sized LB jar. The decorative schema consists of a single application of a dense arrangement of circumferential ornamentation from superior to inferior: (1) faint traces of “linked” nail incisions averaging 2.5 cm in length and .36 cm in width, (2) 7 comb-applied incisions of inconsistent widths, but averaging 0.25 cm, separated by ridges averaging .05 cm in width, (3) a single band of cord ornamentation created by regular oblique impressions averaging 1.8 cm in length and .5 cm in width, and (4) a molded wavy line averaging .52 cm in width and featuring a period of 2.5 cm on average. Dense circumferential rotational striations are visible on the both surfaces, but are most heavily impressed on the interior. There is a black firing cloud or simple darker area of the sherd on the most inferior portion of the exterior, around the wavy line ornament (possibly from destruction layer). The interior surface features limited amounts of pale yellow gray dendritic concretion. In addition to the coarse sand, significant frequencies of medium and fine sand particles are visible in the fabric. Both surfaces are moderately covered in pyrite pops. Breaks are rough.
