Place: Ar/Ts.NT1.C5

More ashy than the locus above this one - which was C2. It is tan, ashy-silty with a lot of carbon in it. One very large carbon deposit was actually blackened earth surrounding apoorly preserved beam and many burned twigs - the latter were taken for dendro. In general, this deposit is not in the SW, where there is bedrock, or in the NE, which is dark brown with white flecks, but it does cover the majority of the trench. There were several large burned patches in this area - and in the NE corner we came down upon some orange clay patches. These were sketched out (very roughly) in the notebook, but were confined to the NE quadrant of the trench. Often the orange clay was sandwiched between layers of blackened earth or carbon deposits?very patchy in this area - from dark brown to orange to a yellow-orange with the black carbon appearing here and there?can't figure out what this is.
