A windy, but comfortable day at Aragatsiberd--especially after our insanely hot visit yesterday to the Ararat Valley! We continued to descend in AB3, cleaned rocks in AB4, and began the mapping of Aragatsiberd's surface architecture. In AB3 we continued to excavate locus 11, bringing it level with locus 9 by day's end. Tomorrow we will excavate them together as locus 13. We also began to excavate on both sides of the stone basin, locus 12, which is an ashy, charcoal flecked matrix similar to locus 3. Additional rocks were revealed on either side of the basin-we continue to clean them. LB ceramics and some stone tools were found in locus 12.In AB4 we spent the entire day further cleaning the rocks extant in locus 2--developing our pedestals for a photograph before we pull rocks. There are some very promising rock arrangements in southern AB4, potential wall constructions. In the mapping program we were able to shoot the architecture present on the east side of the hill from benchmark 1. We were also able to map some of the mini-terraces on the first north terrace from that benchmark. We will also map from of the consturction road and spoil piles from benchmark 1.
