A rather disrupted workday at Aragatsiberd due to extreme wind, but we were still able to accomplish several goals. In AB3 we opened locus 13 at the base of loci 9 and 11, so that we are now simaltaneously excavating locus 12 and 13 in the southeast (basin area) and northern portions of the trench respectively. Early in the day we exposed a cylindrical vessel in locus 13, upon which we turned to the final removal of locus 9 from at its southeast margin, where the charcoal lens locus was visible. By cleaning from both sides (loci 9 and 12) we were able to determine that the charcoal lens (no locus number yet) is in fact a narrow beam, which seams to lean all the way down to the locus 6 floor. We removed a large mano fragment from this portion of locus 9, perhaps 75% of the original tool. In locus 12 we brought the entire open area around the stone basin to the level of the locus 6 floor. Finally, we exposed some sort of ceramic 'bar' or 'wand' at the base of locus 13 excavation. Wind then forced us to close the trench for the day at 3PM. Workers were diverted to AB4 instead. AB4 has proved to be difficult and slow to excavate, largely due to the high frequencies of rocks and roots. By the end of day we had removed the locus 2 matrix from all but the easternmost margins of the trench.Mapping also had to be halted early today due to the strong winds. We were able to take two road points from benchmark 5 before it was imposible to maintain the robot connection. We shall try again tomorrow.
