Another windy, but productive day--we excavated further in AB3 loci 12 and 13, photographed AB4 locus two and began the locus 3 excavations, and laid 5 permanent cement benchmarks on the hill.Because the AB3 wokers were used for half of the day to lay benchmarks, we only excavated slightly lower in AB3, cleaning between the locus 12 basin-associated wall-fall and opening another portion of the locus 13 (likely) pit. The basin-associated rocks appear to be sitting on a clay floor which is visible now in spots. In locus 13 the matrix is growing even more loose and 'pit-like.'We finally finished excavating AB4 locus 2 this morning and were able to take a mid-morning photo of all the pedestalled stones and rock carpet. We then pulled stones and excavated the pedestals, revealing a line of rocks and possible wall at the south trench margin (running roughly north-south). We also revealed a large portion of an LB jar near the central portion of the western trench wall. Tomorrow we'll be digging with shovels, attempting to descend more deeply in the northern trench portion in order to pedestall and clear stones in the south portion. We laid 5 benchmarks with cement today, near each of the following original (rock) benchmarks: ABBM1, 5, 3, 4, and 7. With plenty of left over cement we plan to lay three more tomorrow. I will bring the hobby hack saw to lower the benchmarks rebar slightly.
