Narrative

Started a new 2x2m test trench today in data block 1B of South Settlement magnetometry survey area. The new trench will be called So Stlmnt 1, and is designed to find an anomaly associated with subsurface architecture in this area. As I did with the previous test trench (SLT8), I located several interesting anomalies in the mag image for this survey area, and got their coordinates in Arc, which I then plugged into the total station and staked out to them in the field. Many of the anomalies turned out to be large surface stones, but the one I ended up choosing didn't have evidence for surface architecture or large random stones. The trench was oriented along a slight burm that may line up with some visible architecture, so hopefully we'll catch some subsurface architecture as well. Removed sod and topsoil in the morning, and after lunch we got down into the wash layer. We also have already expose three large stones that line up, but don't appear thus far to align with and neighboring constructions. The wash layer south of the stones will be loc 2, the "wall" will be loc 3, and the wash layer north of the wall will be loc 4.
