Narrative

Today we dug more in T22.18 with shovels, to capture the north side of the terrace wall. It also is difficult to tell what the jumbled rocks are, that lie between the central room of T22 and the terrace wall, so I'm hoping that digging down will help reveal which rocks we can toss. We also have begun to dig this locus from the side near the clay basin, to better understand the rock jumble. In T20, we are still digging in locus 103, and still the matrix remains the same medium-brown, gravelly soil that I find somewhat baffling, because it does not seem like any sort of particularly cultural fill, yet this locus is full of ceramic sherds, some bone, and also today, a bronze awl. But no surface! My new theory is that because it abuts the terrace wall that runs north-south, and also lies below the terrace wall, everything simply fell into this area--unless it's a pit, but in that case, where are the borders? Why is the matrix so uniform?
