2008-08-04. Monday. working with six workers today, i set so taking out the rest of locus 127. before noon, we took out this locus (mixed light soil, some materials) all the way to the east baulk, where we ran into the remainder of locus 124/ the beginnings of locus 125, the mega- boulder collapse layer which lies beneath and east of locus 128. luckily it seems that this rockfall does not intrude on the northern extension of T19 (which was indeed the reason for locating the extension where it is). once it was clean(ish), i took levels and photos for the top of locus 128, and started on the west side of the locus, finding the color change in the soil to the east of the LB wall continuation. I started fairly conservatively, with the intention to go back again and re- probe the margins between locus 128, the wall (locus 126) and the lighter western soils (locus 129). the fallen stones which lie roughly above locus 113, but which were now practically pedestaled above locus 128, I am removing along with stones sitting almost at surface level in 129. One large EB sherd from locus 129 today. Three C14 samples came from early work taking out locus 128: this burned locus is very charcoal rich, with almost every shovel pass bringng up small pieces of charcoal. I took sizeable samples from near the edge of the locus, beneath the stones on the south edge of the trench, and from near some large low stones which emerged within locus 128, east of the LB wall.
