2008-08-06. Wednesday. This morning i started another cleanup of the burgeoning backdirt pile on the terrace floor in old-T19, and set to finishing up the tail end of yesterday's shovel pass across locus 128-- it hd become mired in large stones and general recalcitrance in the eastern end of the trench. i then started a second shovel pass, probing the soil color- changes near the LB wall on the western side of the trench. in the course of this, i quickly saw that locus 128 begins to peter out just below the end level of yesterday's pass, giving way to a lighter, still plastic brown soil which looks strongly reminiscent of locus 107. i chased this locus eastward and it quickly became obvious that we would need to spend some time this afternoon managing the backfill, which was good since work in the trench was beginning to lose focus. Also, the overflowwing backfill is obscuring the margin between the extant and new trench soils. in the course of this backfill management, i encountered an abrupt administrative failure and work stopped for the day.
