Narrative

An early end to our excavation work today as rain ended the work right before lunchtime. We attempted to wait it out, but the rain was coming strongly from multiple directions. Before the rainout, however, we had a productive morning removing the northern sealing stones from the AB3 pit and excavating the undifferentiated pit fill as locus 22. With further cleaning it became clear that the pit lip rises underneath the eastern sections of AB4, but is separated from the lowest construction courses by a burnt clay and stone construction layer of materials apparently placed to seat the wall sections. We may need C14 samples from this construction locus in order to connect the bedrock cuts with the north AB3 stone architecture. In AB4 we continued to clean locus 7 eastwards towards the stone pavement, pulling rocks and collecting additional samples of dominantly EB pottery.Following the rainout, the afternoon consisted of database work and bag organization.
