Today was a very productive day, both in terms of what we accomplished, and my realization of the true size of what we've organized. Today, everyone worked very well, steadily all day, even when it got hot, but we still didn't /quite/ finish removing the topsoil from WSN. We had all 10 workers in there, with 2 wheelbarrows for most of the day, and buckets and a nasilke for the whole day, and we still did not quite finish removing the topsoil. But I think it's really just due to the size of the trench, more than anything else. The one complicating factor is that there are 2 slopes in that trench; one to the SE, and one to the NE; both sort of decline down to the lowest, western, corner. This double slope caused the workers to sort of automatically try to flatten the trench while also removing the topsoil. This speaks well of their work ethic (or type-A personalities), but in the end, it complicated locus 1. There is a clear difference between where we worked in the NE side and the wall along the SE side yesterday, when I could not be in the trench the whole day, and today's work, when I was there the whole time. I explained twice today not to dig, just to remove the top, and they finally got it, but only after burrowing a bit. So, today was better, but not exactly perfect. Overall, though, I'm pleased with the work, and with the skills I'm slowly remembering (ie to draw rocks and to manage the logistics of 10 men in a trench).
