As we starting taking down L502, we began finding small pieces of charcoal, which eventually became larger ones that we collected for radiocarbon dating (Ar/Ge T19.502.C14.01A). In L501, the soil became darker in the NE corner, and became very compact and granular. In this matrix we came down upon a scatter of large sherds, which look to be from a couple of nearly complete vessels. This became Locus 504. We initially thought that we might have come down on a floor, so we began screening the materials from Locus 504. In Locus 504, at the same level as the ceramics, we found a piece of groundstone. At the end of the day, we decided that the scatter was not a floor, so we photographed and collected the large pieces of ceramics from L504.
According to Adam, from the pottery collected, Locus 502 is Stratum 2 (LBA), and Locus 504 is Stratum 1 (EBA) since we have found some good examples of Kura-Araxes pottery.
