July 4th! (so worked a half day). I consulted with Adam and Ruben first thing about which stones can be removed from what seems to be rockfall in T22. Ruben feels that we should take a look at the architectural drawings from 2008 in order to make sure we don’t remove stones that haven’t already been drawn. We removed a few stones which were obvious tumble (angled and on a soil pedestal). I had the workers bring L105 down about 10 centimeters and level it off, and they nearly finished that before it was time to leave. Very little bone or obsidian, but more ceramics came out from this locus as we did this pass. There is a large dark brown/black lense which has begun to appear in the N part of the locus. I asked Adam about it and he said it may indicate that we’re coming down on a LBA surface (though all pottery is EB). I’ll keep an eye out for a surface coming up. Three addition charcoal samples were taken from L105 (they are Ar/Ge.T22.105.C14.03; Ar/Ge.T22.105.C14.04; and Ar/Ge.T22.105.C14.05). They aren’t associated with any particular surface as of yet, but if we do come down on a floor they may be useful as a terminus ante quem. Arthurik, Vato and later Gennell spent some time exposing the eastern face of what may be a wall along the eastern side of L103. We’ll continue to clean this face and expand L103 to the west on Tuesday. Adam used the total station to shoot in my benchmark, and we added a second one since the severe slope of the trench will soon make it difficult to take elevations from the upslope benchmark (BM/Datum 1). Measurements are: Benchmark/Datum 1: 2296.877 m, Benchmark/Datum 2: 2295.687 m. Day off tomorrow, will be back on site on Tuesday.
