Today we completed loci 9 and 10--the tops of the southwest and northeast walls--and concentrated on the western quadrant of the interior of the room. We started the day removing some large stones from locus 11--a very rocky area. Some were left in place since they may be internal room dividers. I closed locus 11 when we began to encounter the medium brown slightly clayish silt across the area (at a slant). Opened a new locus--12--in the westernmost corner of the interior of the room. This locus has the same dark brown soil matrix of locus 11 and locus 6 above it. From locus 11, I now know roughly how deep we need to go to the medium brown matrix. Soil changes occur in accordance with the dramatic slant of the room. This is curious. Was the floor not leveled?
