Narrative

We continued to clean and uncover the second layer of sherd scatter today, and have produced four bags of ceramics already. After cleaning and leveling the locus for most of the day, Ruben photographed this second layer of sherd scatter, but because it was 3:45 PM by the time we got around to photographing, we lifted just a few of the loosest ceramics, and have covered and left the rest of Monday. The bedrock in the locus is most apparent in the NW corner, and while I hoped to reach bedrock across the whole locus and close it, we weren’t able to. Hope to reach bedrock on Monday.
In T27 we finished removing the topsoil today and closed that locus (T27.01). We then opened a new locus(T27.02) in the most upslope portion of the trench, which has the N, S and W baulks as its boundaries, as well as a rock wall(?)/line of rocks going from SE to NW, as the eastern boundary. We just began to make a first pass in this locus before the end of the day, and will continue on Monday. We took a few samples of charcoal, though I’m not sure how useful these will be since they aren’t associated with architecture or a ceramic layer, and also found a groundstone mortar which had been worn through so that the mortar cup was pierced at the bottom.
