More rain last night, so the trench is still wet. While waiting for locus 15 to dry (for screening) we started to day working in locus 14, where the dark brown silt wash deposit continues. After cleaning the several large stones in this locus (one cluster against the northwest wall, the larger cluster toward the southeast), we photographed them and removed them.
Work was interrupted by heavy rains. When they stopped, I opened a new locus (16) to designate the top of the northwest wall of the trench. The wall looks quite irregular. It's possible that I'm not quite yet seeing the line of the wall, which may be a bit further back.
Two objects brought home today. One appears to be a large piece of brick (perhaps part of a hearth?). The other is a chunk of a soft white stone that I'd like to show to Arkadi. This may be the substance used to coat the walls. It also recalls the lake deposit beneath the floors in WSL and WSG, etc.
Adam visited WSN on 07/20 and confirmed my sense that locus 07 is a floor. But he also is mystified by the fact that it appears to stop suddenly, not continuing into the rest of the room. Suggests that we excavate locus 07 after reaching the floor in the western quadrant of the trench.
