Today was pretty productive--and the rain never came, which no doubt contributed to our productivity. We found what may be 2 more pieces of the vessel (Locus 7), and also a bone/ivory pendant, that was recovered from the screen in locus 11 (which is where locus 7, the vessel, is found). We also sampled some significantly large pieces of charcoal from locus 11 (the north corner). In addition, we were able to remove the rock jumble from the east corner of the trench; we removed the rocks one by one, but as they were lifted, it was clear that they were not any sort of construction, and so we removed all of them, in the end, and now the east corner is quite lovely. I also closed locus 12, the wash layer, and we cleaned the rocks in what is now locus 14. I have begun to draw them, but I doubt that they are any sort of deliberate construction, even though they are near the door in the SE wall. Too many of the rocks are pedestaled. We also found a strange charcoaly matrix (locus 15) inside of Locus 12, but after I troweled it for a considerable period of time, I'm not sure that it is anything, either. Nevertheless, I took photos and covered it at the end of the day, to explore a little further next week. I also took photos of locus 11, in the north corner, because we're coming down on a new soil matrix with far more charcoal, so I may close 11 after we dig it eastward, toward the east corner, but we'll see next week. Overall, I am pleased with our progress; we are now well over a meter down from the topsoil.
