Today was a full day, and we got a lot done in both WSAC and WSAD. In WSAC, half of the six workers finished removing Locus 11 and screening it, and after photographing the surface, which is arbitrary, we closed 11 and opened 17. Locus 17 has a significantly larger amount of bits of charcoal and artifacts, although I am unconvinced that it is a floor surface, and that we still need a bit to go before reaching that, mainly because 1) the stones of both the NE and SE walls in WSAC are not completely revealed, and 2) the actual matrix has not changed at all, just a jump in artifact amount. However the amount of fill on top of this floor is intriguing, as we have gone down a considerable amount, full of artifacts, and have not yet reached a floor. It is therefore possible that the original surface declared as Locus 6 was some sort of ephemeral later surface that for whatever reason did not continue into the center of the room.
In WSAD, the rest of the crew finished removing Locus 6, the darker soil of the overburden in the eastern and southern corners. After that I declared Locus 7 the lighter soil in the northern and western areas, that appears to be hugging the partition wall between WSAC and WSAD. I also had the crew remove Locus 8, which constitutes the area of soil in the 'door' in the westernmost area of WSAD; it changed from a darker soil, respectively the overburden, to a lighter brown soil similar to the matrix near the wall in Locus 7, so I had the guys stop removing it and will probably open a new locus tomorrow in this area. It would be interesting to expose as much of this 'doorway' as possible, to ascertain the nature of the gap in the wall and if there were any visual markings in either the masonry or affectations.
After that, I swept the surface and declared Locus 9 the continuation of the dark soil in WSAD, again in the eastern and southern corners, although closer to the baulk. I also declared Locus 10, as the lighter brown matrix which is becoming more clay like and constitutes the same sort of matrix apparent in WSAC near the walls. This locus likely represents some sort of fill on top of the floor in WSAD, similar to that in WSAC.
At the end of the day the guys in WSAD were removing Locus 10 and another course of the walls was visible. Also, interestingly, a stone under the three stones in a linear feature in the eastern corner of WSAD was becoming apparent, hopefully indicating that this feature continues and is not a strange product of the overburden.
