Narrative

Most of today was spent cleaning and exposing the stones/tumble which make up the entirety of the trench to the east of L05 and the ceramic deposit. I opened a new locus in the most SE corner of the trench (this is L61), the goal of which is to better clean the E face of a line of granite blocks that seem to make up a wall, and line up with the large, faced stone in T22 just to the south. Otherwise, the day was mostly spent cleaning areas between rocks. This is slow going, but we’ll begin to remove some of the tumble and rocks tomorrow. We did find two ceramic objects in L09: a large ceramic bead with vertical striations (Ar/Ge.T27.09.CO.01) and a ceramic fragment pierced with a hole (Ar/Ge.T27.09.CO.02).
I also spent a good part of the morning helping Lilit excavate a number of potential dendro samples from her trench. I’m not very confident that these are very good samples, but I took care removing them (and wrapped with string) just in case-- better safe than sorry. In any case, it would be nice to have samples from another trench to compare with the samples taken from T27-- if analysis is possible. A few large, reasonably intact pieces of wood (not carbonized/charcoal) also came out. We carefully wrapped these with string as well-- but I noticed that these have very large growth rings, so probably not very many per sample.
