Today we dug down Locus 17, along the NE wall, to make it even with the level of its 'wings' near the NW and SE walls. We also found a couple pieces quite possibly from the interesting vessel(s) of Locus 7. However, we had to leave a portion of Locus 17 along the NE wall intact for today, because unfortunately, we dug through a hearth. However, the saving grace may be that the hearth was already in pieces and decontextualized, since we did end up retrieving 5 bags' worth of hearth pieces. We also found six charcoal samples from Locus 17. Tomorrow, I will need to evaluate whether to arbitrarily close it--Locus 17's matrix is the same as Locus 11's was, but it's already very deep, and has produced a lot of bags of material.
