Narrative

A lot of workers today because Armine’s trench was not open and some of her workers were helping in my trench today. As such, I had two of Armine’s workers excavating and cleaning the face of the stones in L61 and L62. Aris continued to try and reveal the second course of stones (E face) of L06, while I had Arthur and Arman continue excavating in newly opened L64 (which did turn out to be a pit; see below). Additionally, I had Gennell, and two of Armine’s workers digging in L112 in T22 to bring it even with L111. Here the goal will be to reach bedrock in this lower portion of the trench before we finish next week. Additionally Vato and Jovannes worked in T22, L115, cutting back the baulk as they were yesterday.
In T22 Vato and Jovo came across a small but obviously EB sherd scatter that is beneath the wall/platform (L114) between T22 2008 and T22 2010. These sherds should help to date (or at least provide a terminus post quem) for this wall. Because these ceramics were obviously EB I wanted to keep them separate from the mixed contexts which may be below-- so I gave this its own locus (L116). Additionally, L64 is most definitely a pit. Arthur and Arman excavated this today, and made serious progress (about 1.30 m deep by the end of the day). This is a very deep pit, and in addition to a bag worth of bones (and very little obsidian) the broken remains (maybe all?) of a very large storage jar have been coming out. Towards the end of the day we seem to have come across some of the bottom of the jar, (while the lip/shoulder was in the upper portion of the locus). We’ll continue to excavate this tomorrow and hopefully reach the bedrock.
