A 2x2m section of Gegharot was rocked today. Indeed this rockage was my first excavation, like, evar. Pretty jazzed. The test trench, bestowed with the name of T29, was chosen after MAGgie suggested a very magnetically-susceptible 8x8m region in 1C of the 1 hectare of Gegharot conducted a couple weeks ago. Anyhoo, the actual trench is located about 2m south of a point chosen for the sole purpose of registering the anomaly complex GIS-ally. The NE and SE corners both registered over 1000 nT during a brief mag sweep earlier today.
Three workers formed today's T29 team: Avo (older Avo), Armand, and V---- (oops). We found a full bag of ceramics, including some pretty nifty, diagnostic sherds from LBA and EBA. Some cattle bones and teeth (two molars and an incisor) were also found, as were unworked obsidian specimens. Also were two sandy-colored sedimentary rocks, which I'm excited about for some reason.
I started locus 3 at the end of the day. I'm curious as to whether or not the curvilinear granite features at all but the NW corner are human-formed or not. I'll find out when I get deeper.
Toodles!
