Spent most of the day working in T22. Since we can definitely finish T22 this year (and almost certainly cannot finish T27) we’ll focus most of our energy there for the coming days. I had Vato continue to cut back L115 in T22, and he came across was must be an EB wall (which may be cut into the bedrock for stability? in that case it must be a terracing wall or foundation of some sort)-- this is dated from the EB pottery which sat above it, but below the platform/wall (L114). Vato also found two bronze beads just a few centimeters below the level that is even with the top of the wall-- these must be EB also (Ar/Ge.T27.115.M.01; Ar/Ge.T27.115.M.02). We also continued to clear L112 and clean the E face of what may be a wall or terracing episode that exists to the W of this locus. Tomorrow I’ll take elevations and open a new locus which will combine L111 and L112.
I also spent the morning excavating the rest of L64 (a large pit in the upper part of T27). It is over 1.40 m deep and has one step (it would be impossible to get in and out without it). It is also bisected by the baulk between T22 and T27, and must continue beneath the baulk. If it is symmetrical, it would be almost 2.00 m N-S and about 1.65 m E-W, however we won’t know unless we remove the baulk but this will have to wait until next year. At least two large storage vessels came out of this locus.
Lastly, we worked a bit in L61 and L62 in the most downslope part of the T27 and are beginning to clear a flat row of fairly large (~ 0.75 m x 0.50 m) stones to the E of L115 and the other “terracing episodes” so this may represent another attempt at dealing with the steep slope of the hill.
