First day of a new season and things are off to a good start. I spent much of the day dealing with organizational matters (workers, equipment, etc.) and giving Jake Nabel an orientation to the site. Workers were tasked with removing the backfill in WSN and WSI2, down to the level of the tarp that we laid down last season. By the end of the day, most of this work was complete in both operations. I opened a new locus in WSN, locus 23, to designate the area in the northern quadrant of the trench where only sod was removed last season. We will bring this area to the level of locus 7. Much of the day was spent contemplating this season's excavation strategy--namely, whether and to what extent to continue in the area where Katie Kearns was working in 2010, and to what extent to concentrate our resources on Precinct A. After consultations with Adam, Ruben, and Jake, I've decided to have Jake begin a new operations in WSM2, so as to afford a contiguous architectural picture in Precinct A. Katie is likely to continue in WSAC/WSAD.
