We continued to take down the eastern part of the trench down to the level of the darker soil. Once that was done, I started a new locus (Locus 2) and continued downward. The soil in this locus started out as a dark brown/black sand silty loam. We found a ceramic disk (Ar/Ge.T31.2.CO.01) near the top of the locus in the NE corner. There is evidence for rodent disturbance in the locus. We removed many of the rocks that were in the eastern part of the trench. We found a few flecks of charcoal along the eastern wall at a depth of 145 cm (taken from Datum 1). Along the northern wall, we hit a light brown sandy silty loam. In order to better understand the vertical changes, I went down 10 cm for a one meter strip between 3-4m west of the eastern wall. The soil in this strip is mottled brown, dark brown (with some yellow) sandy silty loam and has a low density of artifacts. It seems clear that we are still in the overburden.
