this morning we had a surprise visit from K. Ghafadaryan and the ministry of cultural monuments etc etc. who were making a tour of Aragatsotn and happened to stop by the site just as i was starting my second day. We removed the stony collapse layer from AC1 (this was locus 2) revealing a denser, more organic level with stains and material that extends w-e for 2/3 of the trench before eroding downslope (Locus 3). This was potentially an old surface level? In AC2 we took down the stony topsoil (I am setting aside all worked stones, and dumping the rest) until we revealed a combined surface of two loci: locus 2 is a yellowish, crumbly stain on the western side of the trench, bleeding into locus 3, a redder soil with medium stones and some finds. taking down locus 3, we encountered a soft patch and some large stones in the southern end of the trench (more investigation pending) and a burnt feature (locus 4) in the northern corner of the trench. the burnt feature included chunks of burnt wood and bone.
