Today was my first full day at Tsaghkahovit after arriving yesterday from the states via London. In the morning Lori and I discussed plans for my operation(s) this summer, especially whether or not it is worthwhile to continue investigating the area of WSAC/WSAD or to move me over to the west settlement. We decided that the area is still intriguing enough and useful for thinking about stratigraphy and phasing at the site and for Lori's book, and we both agreed that WSAC as a room to excavate has more advantages than WSAD, with the benefit of still being able to expose more of the doorway/partition wall between the two rooms. We measured a 8.2 m long by 6.2 m wide operation directly to the southwest of WSAC and extending over the partition wall into the old WSAD operation, to the southern corner of room WSAC. The operation's southeast side is therefore the partition wall, with about four meters to the west left over to potentially pick up more of the paved floor or possibly a doorway into the room. The operation's corners point in the four cardinal directions. In the morning I took measurements with my four workers - Gagik, Ardzrun, Vartan and Zahoro - and photographs with Lori's camera from the four sides. By about 10:45 they had started removing the topsoil, which I designated Locus 100 to differentiate from the old operation. At first, this seemed like a good idea, but in the evening it was decided that it would be easier for me and the database to call the operation WSAC2, with a first locus as Locus 1.
